In the modern world, despite its high technology, there are still various signs, customs and amulets that have been preserved and handed down from our ancestors. A large number of them can be bought in some specialized stores at an excessive price, which is completely useless!
We offer you an alternative solution, so that you can make a charm for good luck with your own hands using improvised means! It won't take long, but it will definitely give you enough pleasure and enjoyment.
Originally from the past
Before we tell you how to make a good luck charm with your own hands, we briefly tell you its story. And we will talk about the amulet dolls that were popular with our ancestors.
They generally patronized women, lovers, and home keepers. Such a charm for good luck should have been carefully kept in a secluded place so that no one could disturb and anger him in any way.
Since the common population was not particularly famous for its great wealth, the doll was created from improvised materials, scraps, scraps of cloth, straw and wood. A good luck charm could even be passed down from generation to generation, but if you don't have one, we can easily make it ourselves!
Of the artisan in pieces
To find materials for this craft, just check your containers, because there is definitely something in them. Therefore, you will not only use the ornaments, but also make a charm for luck and money with your own hands.
What do you need:
- Mouline thread. It is best to take the red or white colors, which are best combined with the folk style. We will need even less than half, so you can use ornaments.
- Several pieces of cloth. It is preferable to opt for natural ones, since it is much easier to work with them, due to their properties, which make them similar to paper or cardboard.
- Flax fiber. We will use it to create hair, thanks to its texture; and you can buy it in any store with natural products.
- Pair of scissors.
The first master class: doll-bereginya.
- From white linen fabric we create a column of any length and width, tying in three places with a thread. This will be the body of the future amulet.
- Cut out a large square from the same fabric and, folding it into a triangle at one end, create a silhouette of the head and arms. We fix everything with a thread of red or white.
- We separate the palms from the "wings" obtained with a thread, in the same way we make a belt.
- We make a shirt with a shiny cotton fabric, cutting it according to its shape and fixing it with threads in the same way. It is important to note that a DIY good luck charm is created without a needle and, of course, without glue. Such materials are not welcome here, as they distance our talisman from its ancestors.
- You can also decorate the shirt with bright ribbons with ornaments, lace or beads, but do not overdo it, as this is a popular doll in the first place.
- For the skirt, we cut a large circle with a slot in the center, put it on the charm, and then fasten it with a thread from the wrong side. It can also be decorated as desired with ribbons, beads, flowers or embroidery.
- Now we take flax, divide it in the center with a thread, with which we fix the hair to the head, carefully hiding the knots.
- We weave a braid with the addition of ribbons, create a scarf from a triangle of fabric and tie its ends around the neck in several turns.
- We put various cereals, seeds and herbs on a separate piece of cloth, put coins and form a knot, tying it with a thread to the doll's hand. This symbolizes prosperity in the house, wealth and good luck, which this ready-made amulet will definitely bring you!
For any occasion
How to make a good luck charm so that it will fit on a palm, but at the same time, in order not to lose it, of course, make bags from various herbs that will attract happiness, prosperity and wealth to your home.
You all probably know that our ancestors paid great attention to various herbs and berries, which give them various magical properties. And we couldn't think of anything better than taking the plants, drying them, and then putting them in little bags that are so easy to spread around the house!
Of everything and for everything
We will not delay for long and immediately begin to say what herbs can be used to make an amulet to bring good luck to your home.
We will describe only the most affordable, which are easy for each of us to find:
- Birch is the patroness of home and female happiness.
- The elderberry is a magical healing power.
- Elm: intelligence and wisdom.
- Oak - knowledge.
- Fir: longevity and health.
- Willow: protection against damage and the evil eye.
- Clover is a success.
- Nettle, linden, fern, thistle, wormwood, mountain ash, sage, hops and celandine: these are just some of those plants that can be used to create a good luck and wealth charm at home.
Second master class: a bag of happiness
For such a product, you will have to prepare in advance and, best of all, if it is in the summer. It is during this season that all plants are at the level where they combine both beauty and natural aroma. Therefore, collect all the herbs you need and dry them in the sun. This is the quickest and easiest way to get the materials you need to work in a couple of days.
While the plants dry, we sew small burlap bags ourselves. They can also be decorated with ribbons, embroidery or buttons. For the strings, we take threads of red thread.
When all the ingredients are ready, fill the bags with herbs. You can do this not to the end, so that later it is not difficult to close it, or, conversely, you can fill it so that the dried flowers peek out from above. We fix everything with our hands and threads, without the help of glue, and then we put the bags all over the house so that the good luck charm will definitely work.
Flavor and color
If the above two options are not to your liking, we offer you another alternative option: a wooden charm for good luck!
Its essence lies in the fact that it can be made not only as a pendant, but also as a brooch, ring or keychain. And it is also very good that the product is respectful with the environment, because we will avoid the use of various chemicals, such as varnishes. We will replace them with coloring oils, if necessary.
And for manufacturing, you only need a small thin piece of wood, a combustion apparatus, sketches and sketches and accessories for further exploitation.
The third master class - a wooden amulet for good luck and money.
File the piece of wood to the desired shape with a file and then lightly sand the edges to remove any sharp chips or shavings. Also prepare the hole for accessories in advance.
Apply a pencil drawing to one side, then heat the burner, then add depth and color to the drawing. Add some details and lettering, let the product cool down.
For durability, treat the surface of the wood with a special oil or replace it with linseed oil. It will not only add color, but it will also make the charm waterproof.
After absorbing the oil, the accessory can be safely put on a rope as a pendant, glued to the base for rings, brooches or whatever. You can leave it like that and, for example, keep it in a secret pocket of the bag you are traveling with. Therefore, luck and happiness will always be with you!
For a deep sleep
The following idea is ideal for those who want not only to get a charm for good luck, but also to decorate the interior of their own room. We are talking about a fairly popular dream catcher, which also goes back a long time.
Most likely, its first creators were the Indians, who made a talisman to catch bad dreams and nightmares and hung over the head of the sleeping person. Today we will create such an elegant amulet:
- Take a ring of any diameter, depending on the desired size of the dreamcatcher, and wrap it along its entire length with thread or ribbon. There should be no gaps between them so that the base is not visible.
- As soon as the hoop is ready, we begin to weave a web, adding sequins, beads, and assorted decoration.
- Then, circle by circle, we fill the "inside" of the dreamcatcher, obtaining a fabric similar to a cobweb. Once you're done, carefully block the thread and hide it.
- Now is the time to decorate the amulet for a calm and peaceful sleep. This can be done with feathers glued directly to the fabric strands or suspended from the strands at the edge of the hoop. There you can also add large beads, ribbons, and whatever else you can find in your stock. Even shells can be great to decorate this whole image.
- All that remains is to form a loop with which you can hang the dream catcher at the head of your bed so that your dreams are just kind and bright!
Additional ideas
Of course, the good luck charms do not end with the ones we have listed for you. Therefore, here are some more interesting options for you:
- Red thread. You probably already know that an amulet like an ordinary red thread, once wrapped around the wrist, is gaining popularity. Such an accessory can easily be recreated at home and decorated, for example, with personalized pendants or beads.
- Start bell. Another easy charm to make is a small bell decorated with ribbons and fabrics. It symbolizes cleanliness and kindness in your home, and the front door often becomes your place of residence. The hood itself can be coated with gold or silver paint, which will add beauty to it.
- Horseshoe. This option is very popular and is easy to buy at any home improvement store. But it's easy to do it yourself too, because you just need to find a horseshoe-shaped base, and then attach all your existing stock to it. This list includes not only dried flowers, seeds, cereals, fabrics, ribbons, but also coins. Also, often in the horseshoe itself you can see various pretzels, candies and fruits made of polymer clay.
From all the above, we can conclude: a charm for good luck is created from any available materials. It takes no more than an hour, but the process itself brings not only pleasure, but also happiness with wealth to your home.
